Kiawah Island makes a fabulous destination for the family this Thanksgiving holiday. Whether it’s a decadently delicious meal, spending quality time with loved ones or enjoying the mild temps on the South Carolina coast, there is no doubt you will enjoy kicking off the holiday season with a few Kiawah Island traditions.

Stay in comfort when you book one of our luxurious Kiawah Island properties. The pristine island offers 10 miles of beautiful beaches, dunes, and marshes. The three-bedroom 51 Inlet Cove cottage provides plenty of space for the family with water views and a relaxing screened porch. 1386 Fairway Oaks is another three-bedroom property in a beautiful location that is ideal for making holiday memories.

Get your blood pumping on Thanksgiving Day with the annual Turkey Trop from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Beachwalkers Park on Kiawah Island. The free event includes a one-mile walk or a one- to three-mile run on the beach for families. All level of runners/walkers are welcome.

Then you are going to want to dig into a holiday feast. Fortunately, our fully equipped kitchens allow you to enjoy a Thanksgiving To-Go from the Villa Banquet team at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Order a full meal or just the turkey by Nov. 18, then pick it up on Nov. 24 at the West Beach Conference Center. Here’s a tip: Include a Thanksgiving pie in your order. Choose between pecan, pumpkin, and apple crumble.

Prefer to dine out? No problem. Another plus on Kiawah Island is the array of world-class restaurants serving Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings. The Atlantic Room and Jasmine Porch each offer a holiday buffet at lunch and early dinner.

Reserve a spot at a Lowcountry tradition, the Mingo Point Oyster Roast & BBQ, set 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25. Enjoy freshly roasted oysters, Southern BBQ specialties; ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, grilled steaks, and a bounty of sides, salads, and desserts. Book here.

For some, Thanksgiving weekend is not the same without holiday shopping. Choose Black Friday or Shop Small Saturday to hit the specialty stores at  Freshfields Village. More than a dozen shops sell clothing, gifts, books, liquor, and home decor.

If you want to forego the Oyster Roast, take the family to the Kiawah Island Fall Festival, which takes place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 25, at Night Heron Park on Kiawah Island. The free event includes live music, inflatables, and Southern lawn games, along with crafts and concessions available for purchase.

Then, cheer on your college team in the comfort of your spacious vacation rental. Now, that’s a family holiday to remember.
