Things to Do

If you’re always looking for an excuse to enjoy sweet treats, we have a great one for you! July is National Ice Cream Month, which makes it perfect for enjoying a frozen dessert. Some of our favorite ways to celebrate? Try a different flavor (you know you always order the same one) or create something new by mixing flavors. And who doesn’t love a trip to the ice cream parlor?

When staying in your Isle of Palms vacation rental, you have options.

Walk from the beach to Ben & Jerrys on Ocean Boulevard, with a range of funky, fun, and delicious flavors - from Cherry Garcia to Chunky Monkey to Netflix & Chillld. Its a wacky wonderland of swirls, cookie chunks, nuts, and gobs of chocolate. And were here for it. They also offer frozen yogurt, along with dairy-free and vegan choices.

If you stay at a Wild Dunes Resort property, head to Duneys Ice Cream Shop, which serves homemade ice cream in a beautiful spot on the Grand Pavilion. If you prefer, pick up a carton at Hudsons Market at Wild dunes and take it back to your rental. Enjoy on your balcony or deck.

A short drive from Isle of Palms is some of the coolest ice cream spots.

Beardcats Sweet Shop next to The Obstinate Daughter on Sullivans Island serves gelato in various flavors by the cup or as a float, sundae, or shake. They have 10 signature flavors, including all the basics like Vanilla bean, Milk Chocolate, and Pistachio. They offer another half dozen rotating choices, including Birthday Cake, Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake, and Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Cake.

Also located on Sullivans Island, Republic Ice Cream & Custard uses the finest ingredients in carefully crating their old-fashioned ice cream. From their Southern Butter Pecan, Island Vanilla, Homestyle Cookies & Cream, or Cherry on Top Vanilla, Republic is passionate about their flavors. They even make their waffle cones.

Up the road in Mount Pleasant, Ye Old Fashioned Ice Cream & Sandwich Cafe serves shakes and scoops in a retro-space. Generations of beachgoers have enjoyed the shop, which opened in 1972. Order the Parlour Tin Roof Sundae with double hot fudge and pecans, or the Tropical milkshake with vanilla ice cream, pineapple, and bananas. Sip a Coke Float or Chocolate Malt.

There are more than 31 flavors at Baskin-Robbins in Mount Pleasant, so you might discover your next favorite! Remember being a kid and going nuts at the cooler? Yep, it still happens. Pink Bubblegum, Cherries Jubilee, Cotton Candy. Theyre all still there, along with Chocolate Pralines, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Nutty Coconut, and more.

You can almost taste summer in the refreshing sorbets served at TCBY, located in Mount Pleasant Square. Try a Watermelon, Pink Lemonade, or Mango sorbet. Huge chunks of strawberries fill the hand-scooped strawberry frozen yogurt.

What says summer better than that ice cream?
