Things to Do

You’ve seen it in the movies. A couple or family riding horses along the beach, maybe braving the water for a swim on horseback. Now it’s your turn.

The full-service Seabrook Island Equestrian Center features one of the few beach rides on the East Coast and caters to riders of all skill levels with guided trail rides and pony rides.

What If I’ve Never Ridden a Horse?

No problem. The Walking Beach Ride is ideal for a first-time rider. No experience is necessary.

What will I experience on the Walking Beach Ride?

Beach ride takes participants to Captain Sams inlet on Seabrooks North Beach. Guides often head out around low tide when shorebirds, seabirds, and local stand-feeding dolphins are the most active. This is a great opportunity to see and learn more about our local and migratory wildlife. Note: The minimum age is 12 for the Beach Ride.

Can Kids Ride?

Sure! We offer 30-minute Pony Rides for those ages 7 and under (from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. by appointment). The ponies typically enjoy the rides as much as the kids. Any rider 8 years old and over can participate in the Scenic Trail Rides, which covers about three miles around the island’s interior.

What About the Horses?

They are beautiful, gentle, and accustomed to the beach and trail rides. A dozen make up the team - from Sam, an 18-year-old bay, to the easy-to-ride Scooby, a Red Roan quarter horse, to Cricket, a chestnut Welsh pony. The Center has quarter horses, American Paint Horses, bays, Palominos and a Marsh Tacky with backgrounds at the National Parks Service, trained dressage, and English lesson horses.

What’s Required?

In addition to a reservation, you’ll need proper riding attire. Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. We provide a helmet, which must be worn at all times.

How Much Does it Cost?

A Walking Beach Ride is $175 per person. Pony Rides are $65 per child, while the Scenic Trail Rides are $105 per person.

What If I Need to Cancel?

There is a 24-hour cancellation policy with the exception of inclement weather such as rain and storms. The Equestrian Center accepts cancellations but needs to know early enough to offer available spaces to the next guests in line.

Are There Limits?

There is a rider weight limit of 240 pounds as well as the above-mentioned age limits.
