Greeting the New Year in a spectacular fashion is an international tradition, usually marked with music, dancing, champagne toasts and fireworks. We put a Lowcountry twist on these celebration on the Charleston coast. 

The New Years Eve Family Celebration takes place at Night Heron Park on Kiawah Island. Ring in 2023 with this free event featuring childrens games and jump castles, entertainment, and party flavors. You dont have to wait until midnight for fireworks as the evening wraps up at 9 p.m. with a spectacular display. 

Say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new with a decadent meal at one of the wonderful dining establishments on Kiawah Island. The Atlantic Room serves a la carte dishes, while Jasmine Porch offers a special brunch on New Year's Day.

The Holiday Festival of Lights continues from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on New Years Eve at James Island County Park. Its a magical way to end the end.  

Take the Polar Bear Plunge into the Atlantic Ocean to welcome the New Year on Kiawah Island. The event is set at 11:45 a.m. on Jan. 1 at the Sanctuary Beach Access. Bring a towel to the free event. No reservations are required. The Polar Bear Dip on Seabrook Island traditionally takes place at 10:30 a.m. near Boardwalk 1 on North Beach.

One of the biggest New Years Eve parties traditionally takes place onboard the USS Yorktown in Mount Pleasant. From 9 a.m. to 1 a.m., the aircraft carrier is filled with revelers enjoying live music, hors doeuvres and a full-service bar. Check their website for updates on the 2022 event.

The New Years Eve Flip Flop Drop & Fireworks Show takes place at nearby Folly Beach on Dec. 31 with family-friendly activities. Huge, sparkly flip-flops descend at the stroke of midnight followed by the fireworks display.
