A Valentine’s Day getaway offers the perfect opportunity to reconnect and relax with your partner. What better place to do that than the islands near Charleston? Whether it’s that gorgeous ocean view, the palm trees or the balmy weather (even in February), the South Carolina coast delivers as a dreamy destination.

Need some help planning an itinerary? We’ve got you.

Stroll the Beach

Kiawah Island has rated as having the “Second Most Romantic Beach in America” by National Geographic Traveler magazine. We’re not surprised. It’s an unspoiled, spectacular stretch of sand on the Atlantic Ocean. Sullivan’s Island also offers a remote, natural beach, as does Isle of Palms with six miles of beauty. Whether you go at sunrise, sunset or sometime in between, there are few things as romantic as strolling hand-in-hand along the beach.

Wine and Dine

Kiawah Island Resort offers an array of possibilities with Valentine’s Day-themed menu items at its restaurants. Indulge in the food, wine, and romance at The Ocean Room. Jasmine Porch at The Sanctuary serves its Land & Sea Lunch on the Porch with complimentary champagne. The Atlantic Room, the Island’s most romantic spot, has a special menu designed to delight sweethearts and Tomasso is offering a seasonal menu accompanied by an extensive list of Italian and New World wines.

Or make a reservation at Wild Dunes Resort’s Coastal Provisions restaurant for a romantic dinner.

Bubbles and Bliss

Book a spa treatment at the Sand & Sea Spa at Wild Dunes Resort. Choose some soothing time together with their Couples Swedish Massage. They also offer body wraps and scrubs, facials, pedicures and manicures. It’s a wonderful way to relax.

Speaking of Wine … Take a Tour

Deep Water Vineyard in nearby Wadmalaw Island is a hidden gem that’s worth the drive. Watch for the small signs directing you to this 49-acre winery and vineyard, which offers a $7 tasting “tour” of its nine wines. Then you’re welcome to stroll through seven miles of vines for a self-guided tour. It’s a quaint, beautiful setting. For those with a taste for something other than wine, visit the Firefly Distillery & Tasting Room for a lemonade vodka, small-batch bourbon or another distillery special.

Tea for Two

Nondrinkers and tea lovers may prefer to visit nearby Charleston Tea Plantation, which offers a narrated trolley tour ($14 per person) through acres and acres of tea bushes. Or take the free factory tea where you can see the tea production process.

Book Your Charleston Coast Vacation

Of course, you’ll want to book a romantic vacation rental for your getaway. Our Mariners Watch Unit 4241 on Kiawah Island makes a comfortable and cozy retreat for your couple’s vacation. Its back porch offers a beautiful lagoon view and the location in East Beach makes a central location to enjoy area amenities. Seagrove Villa 7A at Wild Dunes Resort puts the beach right outside your door and is convenient for that sunset stroll.

It’s easy to plan a romantic getaway to these coastal resorts. After all, the beach makes a beautiful backdrop for sparking romance and celebrating with your special someone.
