Things to Do

Let’s face it: Adults traveling with kids don’t always want to eat at “kid-friendly” restaurants. We’ve rounded up some family-friendly Isle of Palm restaurants that will make your dining-out experience a delicious one, even with the littles in tow.

1. Acme Lowcountry Kitchen

Acme Lowcountry Kitchen has one of the most expansive kid’s menus you’ll find anywhere. Brunch served daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offers French toast; egg, ham and cheese omelets, shrimp, short ribs, and more traditional options like burgers, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, and buttered noodles. Their dinner menu expands on those choices with chicken alfredo, shrimp’ n grits, and fried flounder. Acme offers a beach vibe and a friendly wait staff.

2.  Boathouse at Breach Inlet

The kid’s meals at Boathouse at Breach Inlet go beyond the typical fare of fried shrimp and fish and chicken fingers (though they offer those, as well). Options also include lobster, bistro steak, and pasta alfredo. The restaurant also provides a wonderful vantage point for spotting dolphins at play.

3. Coconut Joe’s Beach Grill

Coconut Joe’s Beach Grill is a fun, friendly family spot right on the Atlantic Ocean. Their menu includes plenty of seafood favorites, along with burgers and chicken fingers.

4. Jack’s Cosmic Dogs

The owner of Jack’s Cosmic Dogs on Highway 17 calls his restaurant a roadside attraction. It’s a flash-back to the 50s serving what’s likely the best hot dog you’ve ever eaten. They make all toppings from scratch. Vegetarians options include tofu dogs and black bean burgers. Jack’s entire menu is kid-friendly, right down to the fresh-cut fries, root beer served in mugs, sandwiches, and burgers.

5. Luke’ n Ollie’s Pizzeria

Luke’ n Ollie’s Pizzeria serves up great pies, along with meatball sliders, chicken wings, calzones, pasta, burgers, subs, and an array of salads.

6. Papi’s Taqueria

Papi’s Taqueria is open for lunch and dinner Thursday through Sunday and dinner only Monday through Wednesday. Their Kids Items include taco or quesadilla with beef, chicken, beans, or shrimp; and chicken fingers. Papi’s offers a list of what items are gluten-free and those with nuts, soy, and dairy products - great for parents of kids with allergies.

7. Sea Biscuit Cafe

Enjoy a delicious Lowcountry breakfast at Sea Biscuit Cafe. (Note: They are a cash-only establishment, but there is an ATM onsite). Fluffy buttermilk pancakes, French toast, three-egg omelets, country ham, toast, grits, and more.

8. Poe’s Tavern

Poe’s Tavern on Sullivan’s Island is another local favorite. Poe’s serves burgers, salads, fish tacos, and more. Edgar Allan Poe was stationed at Fort Moutrie for 13 months beginning in November 1827. His time on the island inspired “The Gold Bug,” a story about buried treasure.

With so many great options for everyone in the family, one thing is for certain…you won’t leave Isle of Palms hungry!
