Trip Planning

Don’t sweat the packing when prepping for a beach trip. We’ve got some great tips to help out first-timers on packing for a beach vacation on the South Carolina coast.

Here’s what you need to know:

We Get You Started

At Sweetgrass Vacation Rentals, we love a great, hassle-free vacation. We provide a start-up kit of basics to help get you on your way. You know, things like a paper towel roll, two rolls of toilet paper, a trash bag liner, soap and even a small package of coffee. That way, you’ll have a starter supply of necessities and don’t have to rush to the grocery store on arrival.

Bring the Extras

You may need additional supplies depending on the size of your party and how long you stay. Think in terms of extra laundry or dishwasher detergent; coffee filters and coffee; extra trash bags, paper towels or toilet paper; toiletries; flashlight; and beach towels.

Water, Water, and More Water

You don’t want to get dehydrated while soaking up all that the sunshine. Pack a cooler with water, juice, and healthy snacks to stay hydrated and healthy.

Don’t Forget the Sunscreen

A bad sunburn can ruin a vacation. More importantly, UVA rays can cause skin cancer. So, wear at least SPF 15 when outside. Those with fair skin or a family history of skin cancer should use SPF 30 or higher. Reapply after getting out of the water, and don’t miss those hard-to-reach spots or areas we sometimes forget like the tops of your feet.

Leave It Home

There’s no reason to fill up the trunk with items you can rent here. Save room in the car. Just about anything you need for recreation can be rented once you’re in the Charleston beach area, including bikes, surfboards, paddleboards, kayaks, beach chairs, and umbrellas. Rental companies on Kiawah Island and Isle of Palms deliver throughout our area. You can even rent baby items like strollers and cribs.

Have Groceries Delivered

Get some grab-and-go fruit, bottled drinks and nutrition bars at a Harris Teeter before you get to your rental. Or, better yet, call Groceries Ahead to have food delivered to your vacation rental.

If you do forget something important, no worries. While some of our beaches are secluded, our communities offer plenty of stores that stock the essentials.
