There’s something truly magical about Christmas in Charleston. With cooler weather, twinkling lights, and holiday cheer, there’s no better season to visit and enjoy the many festivities. As your local Charleston experts, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite events and activities to make this holiday season extra bright on the coast.

Holiday Festival of Lights

A visit to Charleston during the holidays simply wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Holiday Festival of Lights, one of the most memorable Christmas traditions Charleston has to offer. Enjoy a drive-through Christmas display featuring over 750 illuminated displays and countless twinkling lights. Pair that with a festival area where children can visit Santa, ride the holiday train, and roast marshmallows, and you’re in for the perfect holiday evening.

The Holiday Festival of Lights runs nightly from November 13 through December 31, 2026, 5:30-10 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the gate. Admission starts at $15 per vehicle for online tickets on lighter traffic nights. This is an absolute must-see when visiting Charleston during the holidays!

Kiawah Island

For guests staying on Kiawah Island, expect to see the island turn into a winter wonderland! Kiawah hosts a Christmas Spectacular Festival on Friday, November 27. Featuring  live music, Christmas festivities, and even farm snuggles, this is sure to be a hit with all ages. This event is free to all guests staying on the island.

The holiday fun continues when the annual Kiawah Island Jingle Shell 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run returns on December 11th. Guests can register here to embark on a festive run through the gorgeous Kiawah landscape. Round out your visit with a holiday meal at one of the many restaurants the resort has to offer. Reservations are recommended!

Seabrook Island

Seabrook Island also becomes pure magic during the holidays, offering plenty of Lowcountry hospitality and holiday cheer. Throughout the season, visit Santa at Freshfields Village, indulge in spirit tastings, and browse the holiday markets!

Isle of Palms & Wild Dunes

Guests staying on Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes can celebrate with the Holiday Street Festival and tree lighting on Saturday, December 5, 2026! This event is free to the public. Enjoy live music, food vendors and even a visit from Santa for the little ones!

Downtown Charleston

The holiday magic continues in downtown Charleston, where historic charm meets festive traditions. Walk the cobblestone streets and browse the decorated homes and festive sights. Join the holiday fun at American Gardens where a Christmas Carousel, festive holiday market and meet-and-greets with Santa and Mrs. Claus brings the magic to life throughout December. For another unforgettable seasonal experience, don’t miss the fascinating Aquarium Aglow exhibit at the South Carolina Aquarium.

Whether you’re spending your days walking the beach, exploring holiday markets or indulging in local lowcountry cuisine, there’s always magic to be found around every corner. Make the season even more special with a Sweetgrass stay, where coastal comfort and holiday memories go hand in hand. There’s still time to plan your Christmas getaway, with homes like 3 on 37th Avenue on the Isle of Palms and 181 Bull Thistle on Kiawah Island still open for Christmas week. Your holiday escape awaits!
