Description

The Birdie is tucked away on a serene culdesac, a hidden gem in the highly coveted Vanderhost Plantation area of Kiawah Island, South Carolina. The 5-bedroom house features a large backyard pool and hot tub—guests have the ability to heat or chill the pool for year-round enjoyment. 

The home underwent an extensive renovation in 2023-2024, with high-end finishes chosen to create an airy and comfortable beach home. Designed with luxurious beach-style living in mind, The Birdie comfortably accommodates large groups with its open floor plan and two expansive dining tables. Yet, it still offers abundant privacy to guests in each of the five bedrooms, ensuring a relaxing stay for everyone.

This charming beach house is conveniently located just a half mile from the beach. Hop on one of the provided bikes and cruise down the shady bike path, Allee of the Oaks, to beach access No. 32; you may even spot one of the local alligators in a pond along the way!

Everyone will love the screened-in back porch, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening cocktail while watching the sun dip behind the palm fronds. The back porch flows into the backyard, overlooking the expansive pool and patio, which is excellent for families to gather outdoors, BBQ on the grill, enjoy a game of ping-pong, and swim in the pool. After a day at the beach or hitting the links, end the day by jumping into the private pool or soothing your muscles in the hot tub spa.

The Birdie is equipped with numerous extra amenities, a rarity in other rental homes on the island. The homeowners thoughtfully provided everything you need for your beach adventures; you will find the house stocked—over a dozen beach chairs, six bikes, a beach wagon, boogie boards, beach towels, coolers, beach toys galore and more! The homeowners, who have been vacationing with their kids on the island for over a decade, have outfitted their homes with all the extras they wished they had found in other rentals, ensuring your vacation is a crowd-pleaser!

The large kitchen has new appliances and plenty of culinary utensils to make a simple breakfast or an elaborate family meal. The bonus is that there are two dishwashers because vacation is for relaxing, not extra dishes!
The home features 5 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms; all beds have high-quality foam mattresses and Sweetgrass's signature triple-sheet bedding for a truly restful night’s sleep. There is also a half bathroom and full laundry room on the main floor.

The primary suite on the main floor overlooks the maritime forest in the backyard. The primary bathroom features double vanities, a soaking tub, and a separate shower—a bonus amenity is the heated tile floors. The primary suite also has a large work desk for a quick conference call, and in case of a work emergency, a color printer is available for guests to use.  

The upstairs has a large second living area for kids to escape and play after a long day at the beach. The home was designed by a mom and is stocked with board games, puzzles, and plenty of books for kids of all ages. There is even a fun play tent for imaginary games—we even have rainy days covered!

Really lovely home and perfect space for our family of 8 adults, toddler, and dog. We enjoyed the large open kitchen, floor plan, and fabulous screened porch. The pool is as pretty as it looks, and the sun shelf was appreciated by us all, but especially the toddler. Excellent staff made all issues and processes easy. Highly recommend.

This property has everything! The owners are justifiably proud of their home, and clearly want guests to have a great experience. Interactions with the property management company (Sweetgrass) were suboptimal until we connected with the property manager herself, and she was very responsive and helpful. We highly recommend this lovely home!

Great property. Very clean and exceptionally well-suited for my family with small children. They stayed upstairs as a family and then spent the day down with us. Pool was great, and the whole home was fully outfitted. Kitchen even had ear corn holders!!! Thanks for the use of bikes, BBQ, and all other facilities downstairs. Great time had by all!!!

It's going to be hard to ever beat 159 Bluebill Ct. in terms of finding the perfect rental for our family and our friend's family which is made up of two 3-year-olds, a 1-year-old and an 8-month-old. The home has SO many toys, kitchen utensils, pool floaties, kid-safe furniture (no sharp glass coffee tables), a lock on the door out to the pool from the screen porch, and an entire play room upstairs. The playroom has toys for little kids and babies–a toy block, ice cream shop from Melissa & Doug trucks, tons and tons of books, and we donated a little push walker toy as well to add to the collection. The basement area that leads out to the pool has an extra refrigerator and freezer and more pool floats than you can count as well as an inflator machine. Noodles, reusable water balloons, just so many fun things. The first floor bedrooms all have blackout curtains. The upstairs bedrooms do not, so if you plan to be up there with littles, might consider packing some travel ones or a slumberpod. The kitchen comes with tons of core seasonings, no need to double up there. Two dishwashers was clutch for our countless bibs, bottles, and kid cups. The pool chairs in the photos can be pulled out of the pool, making the ledge perfect for kids and littles to sit on safely. We did pay to heat the pool (Memorial Day week) and that was necessary to keep everyone comfortable, but in hotter months, maybe not. The hot tub heats up super fast. We ran into one minor A/C issue upstairs and Crystal the property manager was SO fast to reply and have someone come fix it (and discretely too!). Incredible service from Sweetgrass all around. Wonderful property management. We will definitely be staying here again on a future trip.

Great place to stay with family! So many extra items provided by the owners, such as beach towels, pool toys and floats, toys/books/games for kids. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. Location is great - short walk to the beach. Loved everything about this house.

This home was perfect! I visited Kiawah for a tennis weekend with 6 of my girlfriends - we had no idea what to expect. We were floored. The kitchen was better stocked with cooking tools and coffee pots than our own homes. There were bikes and cute, monogrammed LL Bean totes that we could use for our outings. Every room was thoughtfully outfitted. I slept in the main bedroom - the bathroom was amazing and there were SO many beautifully appointed hooks to hang towels on. The house felt like a HOME rather than a rental property. We enjoyed every moment spent on property, and I am excited to bring my family to experience the joy of being there! Until next time!

My family rented the Birdie for a week over New Years and it surpassed our expectations. We loved that each bedroom had its own bathroom, that there was a powder room, the hot tub was so fun. The house had other great perks like ping pong and included bikes plus beach gear. We also loved the small extras, like two dish washers and instant hot water! The location was great and it was an easy walk/bike to the beach. We also loved that there were two dining room tables for larger groups. The house feels tranquil and serene surrounded by the maritime forest. The hosts have really thought of everything and we can't wait to return!

We have stayed in many homes and condos on kiawah By far this one had all the amenities and perks you could imagine . It’s new impeccably clean and so well thought out as to guests wishes and needs ! Words can't express our love for the Birdie! It was our refuge and blessing after Hurricane Helene. It provided peace, comfort, fun and rest. Your home is beautiful and so generously stocked with everything we could possibly need for the perfect stay on Kiawah Island. We so enjoyed our bike ride to the beach, and used your Shibumi when our cabana broke on a very gusty day! The pool was wonderful and once we figured out the hot tub, we loved it. We will definitely be return customers!

Just wow!! The Birdie was so welcoming, so comfortable yet refined and tasteful! We had a glorious week at Kiawah thanks to the Birdie! We loved the master suite, the upstairs oasis for our teens, the thoughtful touches like bikes with cup and phone holders, tons of dishes and cookware, beach towels, coolers and totebags, and labels on the light switches! These owners thought of everything. I would go back to the Birdie in a second!

Birdie was a wonderful place to spend our family vacation. The homeowners thought of every detail providing everting you need to enjoy a day at the beach fro Coolers to towels and umbrellas. The house had a well stocked kitchen with basic supplies. There were large size bottles of shampoo in the bathrooms as well as hairdryers and sound machines in the bedroom. It felt like home for a week! I would recommend it highly.

We enjoyed our stay at the Birdie! Owners have stocked the house with all you need for your stay, from beach towels, beach chairs, bikes, and beach toys for the kids. Short bike ride to beach and lovely pool in the back yard. Pack your clothes and enjoy! We would rent again in future-Kiawah is one of our favorite family vacation spots.

We had a wonderful time at your property! Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our group of 12. The new pool was so enjoyable and the walk to the beach wasn’t too far from the house. All the amenities and extras included such as bikes, beach towels and coolers made things so much easier!

Absolutely beautiful vacation home. We had 5 couples of various ages and there was plenty of room and privacy for everyone. The pool, backyard was a peaceful and enjoyable place to relax. The kitchen was very well equipped, no need to bring your own supplies. Beds were comfortable and there were plenty of beach towels. The bikes, chairs, beach supplies were plentiful also. I highly recommend staying here.

A house we would LOVE to come back to. So well stocked (kitchen has all the goods), well appointed (beach gear galore), and well decorated. Easy walk or ride to beach. We were visiting friends who are club members, so a little bit of a drive to most of those amenities but easy nonetheless.
