Things to Do

Ready to get back to the beach? Welcome to the amazing coastal towns in the country, right here on the Carolina coast. Think outside the box with some of these fun beach experiences.

Watch a Sunrise over the Atlantic

Tell us something that is more peaceful and spectacular than watching a sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean. When you book a stay in an oceanfront rental, the sky’s the limit on how many sunrises you watch while sipping coffee on your veranda. We can’t think of a better way to start the day.

Ride Bikes on the Beach

Grab a rental from Alligator Bikes, which will deliver right to your door on Kiawah Island. They provide locks, baskets, kids' bikes - anything you need. Ride the bikes along 10 miles of Kiawah Island beach. Riding a bike on the beach here is not only allowed but it’s also encouraged.

Ride Horses on the Beach

Seabrook Island is one of the few places on the East Coast that allows horses on the beach. Your starting point is the Seabrook Island Equestrian Center where riders of all skill levels can take a guided beach ride (based on the tides) Monday through Saturday.

Dive-in Summer Movies

The Night Heron Park pool on Kiawah Island is the site of a Dive-In Movie held each Tuesday through the summer. Admission is free and everyone is welcome to float around while watching a movie on a giant inflatable movie screen.

Take a Moonlight Paddle

The two-hour Full Moon Shem Creek Tour out of Mount Pleasant offers a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for those ages 4 and over. See the moon rise over the harbor and take a paddle along the marsh, led by experienced and entertaining guides.

Watch a Dolphin Strand Feeding

While dolphins can often be seen playing in the ocean or area inlets, a dolphin strand feeding is awesome to see. Head to Captain Sam’s Inlet, which separates Kiawah and Seabrook islands, where during the two hours on each side of low tide, dolphins are often feeding. It’s a popular spot for dolphins to feed, chasing fish onto a sand bar, and sometimes beaching themselves. This is one of the few places in the world where you can witness this occurrence.

Enjoy a Lowcountry Boil

Local restaurants serve up a Lowcountry boil, a local fave made up of shrimp, smoked sausage, corn, potatoes, and onions. Or grab the groceries and do your own in your rental’s well-appointed kitchen. Or let Barrier Island Eco Tours do it for you with their Private Beach Cookout. They’ll take you by boat to Capers Island Preserve a few miles north of Isle of Palms, then set you up on the beach with a cocktail while a chef prepares the feast.

Of course, these aren’t the only experiences that make awesome memories. But, they’re a great start.
